Friendship Lost

In the Golden Age,
Of Friendship and Peace,
Before the wars with the giants,
Allfather mixed his blood.

With the son of,
Farbauti and Laufey,
He was a giant,
Who’s nature was fire.

Between them a strong friendship,
Had been formed,
Or so Allfather,
Had thought.

Many journey’s,
And much talk between the two,
One day the giant,
Told his friend that he wished to take his leave.

He told Allfather,
You and I have become close friends,
But I need to travel home,
To see my parents.

Why must you leave now, asked Allfather,
I know we have had some great times, said the giant,
But I have not seen them in a long time now,
They are growing old.

Allfather then took the giant’s,
Arm and hand,
In a clasp of friendship,
And said, Loki you will be missed.

With that Loki turned,
Walking away,
And as he did he muttered,
One day I will return.

My dearest of friend Odin,
Though I think,
It will not be,
The home coming you expect.

Many seasons passed,
And Odin began to,
Wonder about his,
Long lost friend.

So Odin climbed upon Hlidskjalf,
Too look around the worlds,
To see what his friend was up to,
Jotunheim was the last place he looked.

Odin seeing Loki had made his home in Jotunheim,
In the Hall of the evil Angrboda,
He saw that they had three children.

One of the children was a wolf called Fenrir,
Another was a serpent named Jormungandr,
Another was called Hel,
Half alive and half dead she looked.

Odin turned away from the vision,
In disgust,
Odin became very angry,
How can Loki betray by trust.

Opening his eyes Odin,
Saw his son Hermodr,
He said, My son go and gather the Aesir,
Travel down to Jotunheim.

And bring Loki,
His wife Angrboda,
And his children,
Here to me.

Hermodr and the other Aesir,
Made the journey to Jotunheim,
And into the Hall of Angrboda,
Telling Loki all that Odin said.

Loki tried to escape,
But Tyr grabbed him,
And he could not break the hold,
Tyr had one him.

With Loki and his Kindred,
They made their way,
Back to Asgardr,
To Allfather’s Hall.

With Loki and his family gathered,
Together with the Aesir,
In Odin’s throne room,
Allfather made his way into the chamber.

Upon Odin’s entrance,
Hel began to grow in size,
Lightning flashed from her eyes,
Her arms outstretched trying to grab Odin.

Jormungandr raised up,
His giant head and spat,
Poisonous venom,
At the gathered Aesir.

Odin then grabbed,
Both of them with his strong hands,
Then dragged them both out into,
The open sky’s of Asgardr.

Odin threw Hel,
Nine days journey into Helheim,
Jormundgandr landed in the ocean,
That surrounded Midgardr.

The serpent grew,
He grew to such a size,
That he encircled the world,
Until he was able to bite his own tail.

Fenrir began to howl loudly in anger,
Tyr then took the wolf,
Out from among the Aesir,
To calm him.

While this was going on,
Loki and his wife Angrboda,
Made good their escape,
Making their way back to Jotunheim.
