Svadi

It says in the book Seven Viking Romances, in Halfdan Eysteinsson’s Saga pg. 197. That Savdi the Giant is a son of the God Thor. Who lived on a mountain called Blesanerg, north of the Arctic Sea. The lore does not say who Svadi’s mother is, but she could possibly be Jarnsaxa.

In Rudolf Simek’s Dictionary of Northern Mythology pg. 304. That Svadi in Old Norse means “A Careless Fellow” and that he is a giant. In my research. I found that Svadi is “A Rough Type of Giant”.

Svadi is the husband of Ashildr a daughter of King Eytstein of Heidemark. They are the parents of Hrolf of Bjarg and of the Giantess Hodd or Hadda. Simek, says Svadi is called the father the giantess Hadda and Hrolfr, both of whom are Thor’s children. Though I am sure he meant Thor’s Grandchildren.

There once was a Giant named Fornjotr who ruled over Finland and Kvenland. Fornjotr had several sons, two of them were called Nor and Gor and he had one daughter named Goi. Hrolf of Bjarg the son of Svadi had took Goi against her will. In time Nor the son of Fornjot met Hrolf in the battle field, but could not hurt him, nor could Hrolf damage Nor. So they made peace. Goi soon became Hrolf’s wife. And Nor’s brother Gor married Hrolf’s sister Hodd.
