Ullr
Ullr is the son of Sif and Orvandil-Egil (Puryear, The Nature of Asatru pg. 244). He is also the Step-Son of Thor.
Ullr’s name mean “Glory” or “The Glorious One”. Ullr is listed among the Aesir. It says in Young’s, The Prose Edda, in The Deluding of Gylfi pg. 55.
Ull, Sif’s son and Thor’s Stepson, is one [too]. He is such a good archer and Ski-runner that no one can rival him. He is beautiful to look at as well and he has all the characteristic of a warrior. It is also good to call on him in duels.
In Young’s, The Prose Edda pg. 97. In the Poetic Diction it lists Ullr as one of the twelve Aesir that have to be judges. They are listed as: Thor, Njord, Frey, Tyr, Heimdall, Bragi, Vidar, Vali, Ull, Hoenir, Forseti, Loki.
In Saxo Grammaticus, The History of the Danes, book 3, Peter Fischer and Hilda Ellis Davidson pg. 78-9. There was a figure named Oller or Ollerus (Ullr). Who ruled over Asgard for ten years. After Odinn was exiled for seducing Rind. So that Vali could be born to avenge Balder’s death.
Ullr’s Hall is called Ydalir “Yew Dales”. He is a God of Winter and of Skiers and Snowshoes. He is a God of Hunting and of the Bow. He is a God of Archery. Some kennings that Ullr has are: Snowshoe-Asa, Hunting-Asa, Bow-Asa, and Sheild-Asa.
In Simek’s Dictionary of Northern Mythology pg. 340. A shield is called Ullar Skip, Ullar kjoll or Ullar askr.
